Description

This baked crab dip is a savory and creamy appetizer served in a bread bowl, making it perfect for parties. Warm, cheesy, and loaded with crab, it’s a dip everyone will keep coming back to.

Ingredients
  • 1 package cream cheese, softened (8 ounces)
  • 2 cups sour cream
  • 2 cans crabmeat, drained, flaked, and cartilage removed (or 2 cups flaked imitation crabmeat)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 4 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 round loaves unsliced sourdough or Italian bread (1 pound each)
  • Additional sliced green onions, optional for garnish
  • Assorted fresh vegetables, crackers, and/or toasted bread cubes for serving
Instructions
  1. In a bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth.
  2. Add the sour cream and mix until combined.
  3. Fold in the crabmeat, shredded cheddar, and green onions.
  4. Cut the top third off each loaf of bread and carefully hollow out the bottom, leaving a 1-inch shell. Set aside the bread cubes and tops.
  5. Spoon the crab mixture into the hollowed bread bowls and place them on baking sheets.
  6. Arrange the reserved bread cubes around the bread bowls on the baking sheets.
  7. Bake, uncovered, at 350°F for 45–50 minutes, or until the dip is hot throughout.
  8. Garnish with additional green onions if desired, and serve with fresh vegetables, crackers, and/or toasted bread cubes.

Note

For the best texture and flavor, use freshly grated cheddar cheese. The bread bowl can be prepared and filled up to 1-1/2 hours ahead; just remove it from the refrigerator 30 minutes before baking.
