  • 3 cloves garlic, sliced
  • 1 can tomato puree (28-ounce)
  • 28 fluid ounces water
  • ½ cup red wine
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
  • Crushed red pepper to taste
  • 1 package uncooked linguine pasta (16-ounce)
  • 3 pounds squid, cleaned and sliced into rings
Step-by-step Process
  1. Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced garlic and cook until lightly browned.
  3. Stir in tomato puree, water, red wine, salt, sugar, and crushed red pepper.
  4. Bring the sauce to a boil, then reduce heat and let it simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  6. Stir the squid into the simmering tomato sauce.
